What would you teach a class if you only had them one time?

Anything pertaining to situations inside of the school, but outside of the classroom.

What would you teach a class if you only had them one time?

Screwy part one; My schedule got screwy this year and my ES classes were cut down to visiting three different schools for a period of 5 days in a row, that's it.

I have a few ideas but I am curious this time what people here might suggest or what ideas any of you may have for putting together one kick butt class that the kids remember for the rest of their natural lives................

Ok I know one idea......go to class nude and discuss the benefits of living in a nudist colony. :o

Kids would all probably get :freaked: and :puke: :puke: all over the place. But my goal of never forgetting the class would succeed.

Anyother ideas? Practical or otherwise are acceptable seeing as how I really am considering doing something off the wall to make an impact and impression without being a total nut.

What I would do and what I consistently played at ES for 2 years straight...

Boom Boom
Eto

Yeah, these two games aren't crazy off-the-wall ideas, but they were hits for two years at my ESs, and after class and all throughout the day, usually resulted in the kids running around chanting "Boom Boom!" and "Eto!"

This sounds similar to a game I use in JHS. Sounds like a winner too. One for the memory bank of suggestions I have to present to the HRT's at ES prior to classes.

Little prep time, fun, and not overly taxing on the vocal cords.

Can also be used with colors, animal's and other picture cards etc etc etc.

Very adaptable for different grade levels as well.

Thank you..... you :stud:

And, you don't have to do a lot of explaining to the teachers, simply hand them the Japanese version of these games.

I'd make a short movie/documentary with them.

You could fill it with loads of ideas, English, subtitles in Japanese, music all sorts. You could probably get the loan of equipment or even a local media crew involved. They'd def remember that.

Thanks for the ideas, I am starting to lean towards something video related but need to ensure that the classes and teachers are cool with it.

Idiots here caused some problems in the not too distant past about videoing a class and the kids without the kids or get this, parents permission. Something about privacy issues. And this is Okinawa.

Needless to say I may just play the dumb gaijin..........

Paul, if you need a Japanese permission slip, I created one for the Englipedia website so I could legally house pictures/videos on the site.

Just in case you go the permission slip route, you'll need to change "Englipedia" over to whatever you are doing:
PictureSubmissionForm - Japanese.doc

Thanks! :D I will have to run this one through my BOE first to get their ok.

I just hope that it doesnt get to be too much red tape to go through the "right" procedures and more of a hassle than actually just doing it and explain later kind of thinking.

Thanks for your input here. All I will add in response as I am not looking to start an argument with you nor anyone about this point but it would behoove the ALT, or whomever to check with their individual school before doing anything like this as each school has different policies regarding taking video's of the kids in the classrooms or even using their images or even putting the kids stories into a school newspaper without their parents permission.

It's anal in many ways thats for sure but even in your example that you gave earlier the video you took was not restricted to the individual classroom and was broadcast throughout the school. Your school may have been fine with it, yet I know there are others that wouldnt have been pleased.
