visa renewal fee

Postby jessen100 on Fri Jun 17, 2011 3:55 pm

A particular company starting with a B charges its employees for renewing their visas, by deducting 5000 yen from their paychecks the following month as a processing fee. They will deduct 20000 if your forms are late. what other companies do you know of that do this?

edit* 5000 on top of the actual renewl cost of 4000 yen

Don't take this wrong but.....WTF? The visa is the passport holder's and not the property of the DC or anyone else for that matter. Whomever uses their company for assistance in processing their OWN visa renewal should seriously consider who they are working for.

Your visa is yours and not your companies. If you quit your DC the DC has no hold over you or your visa.

I feel vindicated in that I got my teaching papers before I came. Alright, I haven`t got a job in an International School yet, but I have only been subjected to one year of being assraped by a gutter DC company. Now I am in the employ of a quality company that insists on their staff having proper teachers` papers. And a quality company it is.

Maybe it is only because of the company I work in (also starts with a BO, though I call it BL... the same company?) I think it would be cheaper to pay the 5000 yen then take the time off and not get the completion bonus for the month etc.

Is it really a problem to post the company name here??
Anyway, sounds very cheeky what they're doing... Never heard of that.

I would tell them to stick thier fee. and that I would renew the visa myself.
I am not sure but don't companies have to give you time to renew your visa?

That just depends on the contract, I think.

Out here in Nagoya, you can't even get compensated for time spent having to go to the ward office to renew your Gaijin Card, or other processes.

@ dude I just wouldn't stand for that. My caompanies gives you time to do it and they don't cut your pay. They understand that it is somthing you just have to do and it can't be done on the weekend.

I wish I had the option of not standing for it. They cut a little bit more off of the quality of our job every year. It's almost like they consider us a cute little burdon.

I think I'll refuse, I'm going to be tying the knot (when I can sort the paperwork), so I'll nab a spousal Visa. If there's nothing to renew, there's no administration fee. Shane were the same, eikaiwa, always out to shaft you. Jeisensei, PM me your district, we may possibly have met?

As a side note, now that we know we do work for the same company azuhl, I did just get my visa renewal package from said company and it does cost an extra 5000 yen for them to do everything for you. I am just going to bite the bullet and pay it any way.

It's a good question. The problem is my visa runs out just a little before my summer vacation actually starts. It sucks but the 5000 yen processing fee is less than my 20000 yen completion bonus.

Your DC planned it well. I'm sorry you guys have to deal with crap like this, I often wonder about the legality of someone else processing your visa application, don't you have to actually go to the immigration office when the application is finished?

My visa also expired before summer vacation.

they make me love working so much.

I asked them to send me the form that I need to get my visa processed, but they gave me a hard time insisting that it would be much easier if i just sent it to them. I told them i still need to get my tax documents so we would talk again after that.

I got my tax documents and asked them again to send me the form. They conceded and sent it to me. This was a thursday. I asked them to hurry and send it to me because I had the following monday afternoon off. they verbally complied. monday comes and i still dont have it, but that next monday i had the morning off, so i didnt worry about it too much.
that friday 2 weeks after they said they would send it to me) i get an email asking for my current visa information. I look at the forms to see its not something that they need for the one form i want from them, but send it anyways.
my second chance on my monday morning is now passes, and that next Thursday they contact me again, and urge me to just send my tax forms and documents. either that OR i could send them an early leave form for they day when i want to go to the office and get my visa. which would kill my performance "bonus" for the month. I sent it to them that day, my visa would have expired about 2 weeks ago as of today, and had I not specifically asked about it they wouldnt have contacted me at all about the status of it.

the part of me that isnt furious is almost impressed.

On a related note, i have since read that in Japanese law that automatically deducting anything from an employees pay without a permit is illegal. I havent been able to verify if visa fees are something that can be permitted, but from what i read the chances seem slim. The pay advances they make to employees as loans are also 100% not legal when they deduct them from paychecks.

you can find this imformation in this link somwhere. theres a lot of law in there so its diffucult. I think a search for "wage reduction" got me in the right direction last time.

i was excited to lose almost 4man en last month because i got sick twice in the "first 6 months" of my contract. despite the fact that I'm about to go into my 4th year at the same school. :shoothead:

Yeah. I hate how they call a new year a new contract and treat you like a total noob to the comapny. I was going to take some time off because I assumed I was in my second year with the company so I figured that I could take time off when ever I wanted but they said I had to wait 6 months just like everyone else that just got a new contract. Grrr... [rage]

You know, I don't know whether to laugh or cry at the situation above. I do know, however, I think it's a sad day for our occupation when we don't disclose what company we work for...

What ever happened to the days of being proud to work at a certain place?

Otaku,
Respectfully speaking, I roll with newest posts at the top, with older posts below. Hence my situation is below, not above. Please think before you confuse long time readers. On an aside, as I type this I can hear my wife getting pissed off and muttering in the lounge. She is playing Dragonquest and can't find a savepoint, and we want to go out. Lol
