Postby lkelly2477 on Tue May 24, 2011 11:49 am

I think read somewhere that someone on this forum has oone. I'm wondering how I can renew my spouse visa? I know I gotta go to my local immagration bureau. What documents do I need and must my spouse be present? Thanks for any help you can provide.

It's been a while, but you need to get the visa extension paperwork from immigration and then fill it out and take it back, you do not need your spouse to go with you, at least when I did it I didnt need her there. She helped with the paperwork, but other than that everything was pretty easy.

One time if I recall correctly I filled out all the paperwork myself. How long you been here? What about applying for PR status.

I've been here for 11 years. I've been thinking about PR status but haven't decided on that yet.

The major difference is that you no longer have to go and get a spouse visa. Also with PR you no longer need a sponsor to live here. With either visa though things are pretty much the same, you get treated, tax wise that is, like anyone else here. Plus not having to pay something like 8,000 yen or something like that every three years.
