Bounenkai (忘年会)

It's that time of year again. It's time to drink yourself silly so you "forget the year." I am sure that all schools have one of these grand parties, but who is planning on going this year? How much is it going to set you back?

In my case I am going and it is going to set me back 5000. That is actually cheap compared to the end of the year parties I used to go to in Niigata. I was set back about 10000 yen at one of the schools I used to work at but I still paid it with a smile.

This year, I am part of the second year teachers and they are in charge of bounenkai. This is the most excited I have ever seen these teachers. They are planning every little detail and getting presents for everyone etc. I guess this is just there version of Christmas

I'll be attending my 3rd one this week. Ugghh! I really don't like going to these things. Don't ask me why I'm going...

I know what you mean. This long weekend I will be having 3 or 4 of them. (If you count the unoffical one in which I will be going to Tokyo and dressing up as Santa and drinking a Bounenkai than it will be 4 hah)

Well this year I am only going to attend (work wise) my BOE's. It's this Thursday night and seeing as how Friday is a holiday, there are going to be lots of them going on as well. The BOE one is 2,000 yen, plus we have to buy a gift for the bingo or whatever game.

Too many and too much cash that I need in other places.

My family one will be on New Year's Eve. We have a tradition every year of a family bonenkai/shinen kai on New Year's Eve/after midnight. That's always fun!

the night of the 22nd will be mine. Don't know how much yet.

I got a gig the afternoon of the next day, so I don't plan on spending a long time there.

I am in the same boat with no money but at the only "offical" bounenkai that I am going to I actually have to go because they are going to dress me up as Santa and I have to give out presents to everyone. Actually having to work at a party!? Gasp!

Hah. That is the other bad thing about having all of these parties. I have no time to play around with my brand spanking new PS Vita.

You're such a Sony whore...I love it. How is the Vita working out for you? I may get one, if the missus allows it :D I'm getting a Kindle soon, so...not entirely sure if I can justify the expense.

I thought you would love it
It works out fine. The graphics are beautiful. The front touch screen and the back touch panel are both really integrated into the games well from what I can tell. Though be careful of the new romance of the three kingdom game because it freezes up for no real reason. I want to transfer my PS stuff but I don't have the memory card yet. All in all I think it is worth it.

No parties this year. Got the "Norovirus" or "Norwalk" virus in my belly this Tuesday, still not "Hyaku-Pa" yet. Don't forget to wash those hands kiddies!

They usually cost me 5000 each, and I would normally go to the ones my 2 schools host.

i got away with 6000 this year, it was 10000 last year. but this year that only counts for the first stop. which is still pretty okay because the other teachers dont normally let me pay much for anything after that.

Wish I was having such a party at my workplace but most of the bods that work here are firmly stuck in the mud.

I have worked in many a place like that. The difference is, usually in Japan even if they are stuck in the mud over work they want to go out and have a good time to blow off some steam. The place I am now is very far away from that sticky mud.

(BTW, happy new year everyone! :groove:  )

My bounenkai, well simply put, got flat drunk, made it half way home before the alcohol kicked in and I could hardly walk. Missed the last train and had to take a taxi home. FUN FUN FUN... Least the teachers did not see the totally drunk me...
