--ELLEN: Page 41 introduces some random Canadian girl named Ellen. Who is she and why after three years of using the same characters does the textbook randomly insert a new face?

I just noticed this in class today too. This is the only page that she shows up in all 3 textbooks.

The set-up just says "A Canadian girl called Ellen visits Shin for a few days.."

So maybe Shin hooked up with her when he went to Canada in Book 1, and now her rich parents spotted her the ticket to Japan to go hook up with her Japanese boyfriend again. But we only get to hear about them making plans for the weekend, and then no follow up. She's gone forever.

Don't jump to conclusions. Maybe Shin killed her and hid her body. (Maybe I am watching way too much Criminal Minds)

Maybe it's Shin's subconcious kicking in.

Maybe Ellen got hooked up with Shin through Bill after their teleconference call to Wakaba? Seeing as how Bill is Ms Green's brother and her sister Lisa is married to Koji it might make sense that Ms Green is trying to hook up Ellen with Shin as she just knows how great Japanese guys are for husbands and father's?
