UNIT 1: LET’S LEARN BRAILLE
--BRAILLE: Braille is a language, and as such, each reference to it in the text needs to capitalize the ‘B’.
--FIGURE 1: Page 6’s focus is on Reading for Communication, but then it goes off and puts “Figure 1” in brackets. If this page is for reading practice, what is “figure 1” in the text for? It sounds funny when the students read it.
--“KU/SE”: On page 6, it is written: “The Braille in Figure 2 says ‘ku’, for example. Can you write ‘se’?" What does ku/se have ANYTHING to do with English? What is the whole point of teaching about Braille if you’re only going to focus on Japanese Braille? Maybe if the textbook makers stopped talking about J-culture in these textbooks, this problem wouldn’t be a reoccurring problem.
--PICTURE: On page 7, there is a picture of Emi superimposed into a real photo. Fact vs. fiction…choose one. Don’t try to blend them.
Also, are the computers in that picture older than Jesus or what?
--READING FOR COMMUNICATION: On page 8, in blue text, it is written: “Figure 2 shows it in American.” Really?!?! “American?!?!” It needs to say, ‘American Sign Language.’ Textbook makers, you are so coooool going 'casu'!
--MULTI PLUS 1: More J-culture: yunomi, chawan, hashioki, ema, furoshiki, origami, kodomo-no-hi, onigiri, sumo, sushi, tempura, etc. Bitch, please! YOU ARE AN ENGLISH TEXTBOOK!!! STOP WITH THE JAPANESE ALREADY!!! Uuughhh!
