My two newest gripes

DICTIONARY: The dictionary in the back of the textbooks is pathetic. For example, for the most part, colors are left out of grade 1, with the exception of yellow. WTF?!?! I think the dictionary in the 3rd grade textbook needs to be the same as the one in the 1st grade.

NEW WORDS: The words located on the side of pages are written based upon when they are introduced on the page. I don't like that. I think they should be in alphabetical order, or grouped together based on relevance. For example, this/that, America/Canada or is/are, etc.

i half agree with that, but i dont think they should be the same, the 1st years dont need al three years of vocab, the should just have whats in their book. second years dictionary should have second year words, plus all the first year words, and third years should have all the 1st-3rd years vocab imo.

i think having them in appearance order helps them to remember what they mean as they read, but thats going to depend on how your class is run. I think dictionary order would be ideal as well.

in my japanese textbooks it seperated them by word type(noun, adj, etc), but it had all the new words on a page before the whole chapter, not on the side. after seperation by word type i think i had them in あいうえお order, but im not sure.

now that i think about it, if i had things my way before going into a chapter we would study all the vocab beforehand, and not do flashcards the same day we read the section like my teachers do now. i think studying them beforehand then coming back to them in context a few days later gives you a much more concrete foundation in which to remember them by.
