MEXT is coming out with a "new" version of Eigo Noto

And it is supposed to be called something else as well. I was in an English staff meeting at my BOE last week and my boss passed along the information he had received from MEXT that MEXT is changing the current Eigo Noto, and replacing it with something else for the upcoming school year.

Anyone else hear anything about it?

They have been planning on doing that since the beginning from what I heard. The eigo note used now was supposed to just be a test run to see what they could do and (hopefully) make something better. I knew they were changing it within the next few years, but I didn't think they would move on it so fast.

I thought they lost funding for it? If the funding is back, why not just give ME the money? I'll put the entire thing online for everyone to access free of charge. Why is Japan not embracing the digital age?

Funny you should mention the digital age, I'm starting a thread later about ICT. They're pushing it hard at our school atm, orders from BOE.

dammit, have to rewrite about 70 lessons then... bloody hell.
I wonder what will happen with the software and flash card kit? Will they provide new ones? Not all schools agree to spend money for it.

I tell ya, it's not rocket science. Put the craptastic books online. Let schools download and use whatever want from the books. Cost would then shift from the gov't to schools who use the paper to print off whatever they use.

My real wonder is how MEXT is legally able to implement this book without getting its hand slapped for creating a textbook. You know after WWII the gov't can't create them and all...

Yeah, 'techniquely' it's not a 'textbook', BUT "a rose by any other name..." ???
