Here's an interesting tidbit. My wife saw this on TV once.

A panel of 10 people was gathered (not sure about age, status, or any of that) and were asked to draw a scary apple.

The majority of the members drew a very similar picture: an apple with a scary face.

Then the folks running the scenario changed things up by adding a limitation.
They told the panelists to draw another scary apple, but that they must not change the apple's form. The apple had to be drawn to look like a normal apple.

This forced the panelists to find creative ways to make the image "scary." Some did things like cast the apple into a scary environment with deep shadows and under-lighting, or place the apple onto a runaway train about to crash.

Try applying this idea in some of your classes. The idea is pretty broad: "limit options to force creative solutions." So you might be able to mix it into all kinds of activities, if you build the habit of thinking about how to do so.

^^^^^excellent^^^^^

"limit options to force creative solutions." is exactly they tpe of thing im looking for, but how can we incorporate this idea into a more specific activity designed solely for creative solutions?

hmmm.

btw my fisrt apple idea id draw the apple giant, (is that allowed?) and about to fall crushing someone.
if giant wasnt allowed id have to edit it to make it about to crush an ant. i guess idk if ants find death scary though.

ha ha, I bet they don't, with their hive mentality. Some have been known to fill streams of water to form bridges for their comrads, with whom they share identical DNA.

As to how to impliment this into a lesson, I've never specifically applied it to a lesson, myself. But there are certain activities where students have to be creative, such as the "rewrite the school rules" activity.

I have one teacher who asks one student in each row to draw some character or something. Then he compares them using some arbitrary adjective (e.g. Who is the scariest Sazae-san?). It's a lot of time dedicated to drawing rather than using English, but it's a good way to get their brain-juices flowing, especially for less motivated students.
