I can't answer your question Richard, but another thing that confuses me a bit in this context, on the train they say "soon, we will arrive at ..station". The textbook and teachers say "will" is for sudden decisions, "going to" for sth. planned in advance. So was it a sudden decision that that train stops where it stops? I though they had planned it long in advance, but maybe I was wrong :D

No, each train driver is given carte blanche. They choose where to stop deciding purely 'on a whim'.
