It a crazy situation and he's had a very troubled upbringing. I stopped trying to figure out the Japanese school system. I'm just going with the flow.

Is there no such thing as ineligibility in Japanese school? Can you play sports no matter what your grades are like?

As far as I know there isn't ineligibility here in Japan. That would be a form of punishment and I rarely see this style (versus the passive aggressive style) used to correct something/someone.

There is no set "rule" per say, however depending upon the head coach of any particular "club" he or she can, and in my experience have stopped kids from participating in their respective club activity if they student had "bad" grades or wasnt studying.

Then there are kids who get zero's across the board that still play sports.

Seeing as how they have a misguided idea about what compulsory education should be, they pass damn near everyone.

Want to hear a good one....not related to the topic really or this post either......

My son, who never set foot into my local area JHS for even 1 millisecond, "graduated" from that particular school, because the principal there thought it wise that he have a graduation certificate from a Japanese JHS, in case he ever wants to go to a Japanese Uni.

I just noticed that the kids in my city. JHS and HS both don't wear jackets to school. Is it the same in your areas?

It's -4C today. School is not in session until the 18th but I can almost guarantee their school jackets will be one of their layers.
