Insuring your Visa

Postby TENGU on Mon Nov 02, 2009 6:48 pm

So the new guidelines regarding visa extension/renewal are coming into force as we speak, how many of you will it affect?

Are you worried that your visa might not be renewed? Are your employers affording you the services you are entitled to? What insurance are you currently using?

I have a spouse visa. I'm using the insurance you can get from city hall, until I get something else.

I just got my visa renewed for another 3 years. Hopefully, all the changes will be implemented if/when my renewal comes up again.

lkelly2477, you should get 社会保険 しゃかいほけん from your employer, if you are working "full time" you should have been enrolled in it automatically.

you don't work enough hours to qualify according to who? the legal rquirements or what the company claims? Plenty of companies shaft their employees by making idiotic claims about working hours. How many hours do you work and at what frequency?

I'm with Tengu on this one. I think this little loophole is bullcrap.

I'm at work from 8-5 everyday M-F...that's 40 hours, minus lunch. And yet, I'm classified as part-time because I don't 'teach' more than XXX hours a week. I'm AT WORK! Whether I'm actually teaching or not shouldn't factor into anything. There's still other things besides teaching that is considered work: grading papers, prepping, etc.

Both of you qualify for 社会保険 shakaihoken. Your companies are bullshitting you.

I guess Otaku you work for Interac? Your rights are being infringed upon and you are screwing yourself out of money. Get onto your companies about it, you could even join a union,

Know your rights, then you can see how much they are trampled on.

No but it's one of the ones that are well known for screwing their staff, who do you work for?

why don't they:

1. Enrol you in shakai hoken;
2. Give you your paid vacation;
3. Pay you overtime;
4. Allow you to leave the premises during the 1 hour break you're not being given. (if you are eating with the students it is work, not break.

Are you on a 派遣 haken or 委託 itaku contact?

They probably are and have been intentionally breaking a shitload more laws and contractual obligations.

What are the working times on your contract?

@Jessen, I've already got the link Tengu posted on the forum: HERE I've been meaning to clean up that page some, but it's there.

@Tengu, my job situation is set. BTW, while I have no 'official' nenkyu, I do get about 3 months every year of 100% paid vacation. I'll take my 3 over the standard 20 days anyday. But, if other people have questions about their jobs, I'll make sure I send them your way since you seem to know a lot about them.

The 3 months paid vacation is not considered vacation, it is the part of your schedule where you do not have work allocated. The nenkyuu 年休 can be used for illnesses, social events and holidays whenever you want.

It's a shame that people aren't afforded their rights, I'm sure you enjoy your job, like the place you work and don't want to rock the boat. It's those traits in ALTs that despise companies play on when they screw them over.

Accepting the crap is exactly what has driven down the quality of ALT work.
