Postby regardo on Tue Feb 10, 2009 1:58 pm

so far i had a pretty good experience with the english room (nobody dares to go there) and the toilet... the latter rather shmelly.

why do you need to hide?

...try that gym-looking w/out the basketball rims that has a stage. In the wings of the stage.

I feel ya'. When I used to have a lot of downtime in my first couple of years in JET, I used to 'take breaks' in the old English room that nobody used anymore.

The library, the bathroom, my favorite...the computer room when not in use.

Umm walk out the front gate and walk to the nearest convenience store and have a beer. If they ask where you were just tell them you were patrolling around the grounds.

Sitting in your car here in Okinawa in a school parking lot just might get the cops called and you arrested for being a "fushin-sha" plus it gets too damn hot here you could die in the heat.

Hahaha (^^) Yes, I def agree! One has to hide from time to time! Especially from the annoying JTEs! Hmm...I ask if I can run out to the bank and they usually say Okay. All the other teachers go. And then I'll roam around some! hehe

i could go roam at either the lawson or seven11, those are my two roaming options. i generally use both. with the kara-age kun from lawson and a big american dog from seven11 to satisfy me on my school bound roaming.

The weather in late March should be fantastic. Maybe not warm enough for beaches and swimming but March and April are typically the nicest times of the year here. Low humidity, cool nights and warm days.

If you are serious let me know, I should have some free time and could possibly play tour guide if you are interested.

we had a student jump up into the storage areas in the ceiling to hide out one day. it was a great laugh for me because everyone was in a tizzy over a single missing student who could have just as easily walked out the front door. in this case, i think it's good they found him as he could have hurt himself, but as far as i am concerned, once out the front door, MEXT 'em. call the police and let it go. not teacher responsibility. at least, it shouldn't be, but we all know how that goes.

Some of my students used to hide on the roof of one of the buildings, but lately they haven't been up there. I guess too many teachers know to look there now or something.

Timely topic!!

Recently, when I go to the downstairs toilet to brush my teeth (in PRIVATE) the western toilet stall has been shut and locked.
I snuck around until the end of lunch break and saw a 3rd year girl coming out. No one's looking for her though since its lunch break but it makes me sad.

Shes been in there for 3 days of lunches. Should I tell someone? Or is she, just like me, looking for some privacy?

I think I'll mention it to a teacher who has brains on the matter.

hmmm, the student is leaving school forever in two days, right? so what's the point?
how about u talk to her first and if she sees ghosts or s/t similar, tell one of those brainiac teachers. if she just wants privacy, leave her alone.

I'm with regardo. You shouldn't dump it off on another teacher. Talk to her yourself and if she just wants to be alone then leave her alone. If she wants to talk to you then help her... if not, she'll be in high school soon and they can deal with it freshly. The last thing she needs is some teacher to be a creep to her about it. Many of my students are sad to be leaving and have been acting strangly as well.

It is normal for 3rd year kids to feel upset around this time of the year. They have their upcoming HS entrance exams and for the majority of them their 9 or 10 year relationship with many of their friends is coming to an end. It is the end of compulsory education time, the next time many of these kids will meet is at their Coming of Age ceremony when they hit 20, for others never.

Some kids eye's finally open up to the fact that the teachersare not going to be around to baby them anymore too and either go off one end or the other. The majority do well like all of us here did ;) I hope. And get on with their lives.

I would say let her be, give her a smile and just ask are you ok? and let it go!

Now then if she was smoking a cig in the toilet....that's a different story.

I agree with Otaku, why hide?

I usually sit in the teachers room browsing the web and sometimes read a novel. I asked my supervisor and Kyomu what should I do during my free time, they said if I am done preparing my lessons, it up to me. Read a book or browse the web. Sometimes I join the girls after class shooting hoops.

I completely understand needing to hide. Especially since 2 desks are facing my left side. I get the uneasy feeling that the 2 teachers there are always looking straight at me and its very uncomfortable.

They are looking at their laptop screens of course, but I cant see that - I just see their heads pointed in my direction ALL DAY. On my more self-conscious days during certain times in the female ovulation cycle, I find a quiet stair case and sit there, or in the storage locker - just to have some privacy with no one looking over my shoulder.

bitter, but i totally understand.

Hide in the audio room. Do some recordings for tests or for phonics stuff. No one will go in there and people will leave you alone.
