...just hit Kobe schools.

http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/dy/national/20090517TDY01302.htm

What's interesting is that in my prefecture here in Yamanashi, the governor released a speech calling for all people who didn't need to travel not to travel. However, that hasn't stopped all the JHS school trips to happen. hhhmmm....

Yeah it's terrible. They expect me to sit here and masturbate for the week. They have no suggestions as for what I should do and everyone around me is pretending to work but in reality we're all just wishing we could go home and pretending that we are worth a damn. (Which we arn't) Without students there is no purpose for teachers.

boring?
not for me.

although its not written in my contract, but rather in the contract with the dispatch company i work for and the BoE, that we ALTs dont go to school on days students dont go to school. I reccomend checking into that, since it came to my knowledge in a fashion that leads me to believe my company wanted to leave us in the dark about that. though I prefer that it just doesnt come here... yea right.

unfortunately i have already spend most of this months drinking fund.

though in the event that i did have to stay at school, i think id go upstairs and relearn the piano, or practice the guitar on of on the schools instruments.

Are you kidding me? There are actually SWINE FLU PARTIES...

"Swine flu parties" are gatherings during which people have close contact with a person who has novel H1N1 flu in order to become infected with the virus. The intent of these parties is to become infected with what for many people has been a mild disease, in the hope of having natural immunity to the novel H1N1 flu virus that might circulate later and cause more severe disease.

CDC does not recommend "swine flu parties" as a way to protect against novel H1N1 flu in the future. While the disease seen in the current novel H1N1 flu outbreak has been mild for many people, it has been severe and even fatal for others. There is no way to predict with certainty what the outcome will be for an individual or, equally important, for others to whom the intentionally infected person may spread the virus.

Of all things....I get up this morning feeling like crap, aches and pains in the joints, low grade fever, 37.5C, headache.....

A fellow teacher at school and a friend of mine as well suggested that I go to the doctor "just in case"..........

DAMN! :blackeye: There is a possibility that I have the influenza bug. However it is probably too soon to say either way according to the doctor, people here have the symptoms of the flu but it doesnt register as such. He sent me home and told me to come back tomorrow if the fever persists and take the flu test.

The one where they stick a long cotton swab halfway up your nose into your brain and make you gag test. :noway:

This doc thinks that the "new" flu/pig flu is already here in Okinawa BUT that it wont last long due to the conditions here, it's rainy season, high humidity 100% and HOT low to mid 80's.

Just typing this has drained all of my..............................gnight!

One of the article Englipedia is hosting was written by a university professor who works in Osaka. He sent me a link of what people are calling Osaka, Ghost Town. He said the streets are usually swarming with people walking around...but not anymore. He sent me a link of a YouTube video showing the desolute streets.

He writes: "Our university has been closed because of the Swine FluI now, and I'm using some time to catch up on all the work that I need to do at home. Attached is the YouTube, which shows the Ghost Town, Ibaraki-city,Osaka, where I live now. It was taken last night at around 10 p.m. This area is very busy even at night, but only cars are running and not a single person is walking. Oh my..."

Oh and on a side note I would like to pass along my deepest condolences for the first known victim of the swine flu.........

Believe it or not this "scare" is going to cost the economy here in Okinawa millions upon tens of millions of $$$ if not more. Due to school trips originally planned for here in Okinawa being canceled purely due to the fear of spreading this bug.

Just got back from a trip to the US. I thought Japan had stopped checking people on the plane before the passengers are able to get off it...apparantly not. They are still sending a doctor onto the plane to walk around.

But here's the funny thing, when the doctor came onto the plane (mask and all), he asked people to raise their hands if they thought they were experiencing any of the pig flu symptoms. I was thinking to myself, "Since this flu isn't a huge concern back home in the US, what person in their right mind is going to raise their hand and risk being quarantined for the next 7 days of their stay in Japan?" Probably not the best of tactics...

Dont know if you are aware of this but the WHO has raised the alert level to Phase Six for the New Flu, that means a world pandemic warning, which hasnt been issued for something like 45 years.

Since the southern hemisphere is entering their winter season the flu has been spreading around quite a bit it seems.

I think people hear "pandemic" and panic. However, all a pandemic is is "an epidemic of infectious disease that spreads through populations across a large region; for instance a continent, or even worldwide." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandemic

"WHO’s decision to raise the pandemic alert level to Phase 6 is a reflection of the spread of the virus, not the severity of illness caused by the virus." -- http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/update.htm

I'm not trying to sugar coat the seriousness of the Oink, merely pointing out that many people freak at the mere mention of swine flu. People often forget that the common flu kills about 300,000 people a year...but we don't freak out over that. I think the fear comes from not having previous experience with a new type, but not any more serious than the common flu, virus.

That's just my two cents...

We have three schools that I know of closed here in Okinawa due to the piggy flu.

Rather amazing considering that the Health Ministry and those that matter here seem to think or thought I should say that the environment here in Okinawa, high humidity and such, was not conducive to the spread of the disease. But walla we got it.
