Is it the kanji 一（いち）?
It's on the bottom of the kanji for up: 上(うえ) and on the top of the kanji for down: 下(した)

My brother perverted guy that he sometimes is sent me that question in an email earlier this AM. I couldn't for the life of me come up with an answer so I posed it here to see if I could get some assistance. He sent me an email a few minutes ago with the answer.
If I were to post his answer here I think that this thread would have to go into the graves. It's actually 2, but the "thing" is the same.
