Bunch of riddles

Two spies want to get into an enemy's military base. In order to get in they have to give the correct countersign to the guard at the gate after he gives them the sign. So they wait hidden near the gate so that they will overhear the countersign from another soldier.

One soldier comes and the guard gives the sign: "6".The soldier answers "3".The guard lets him pass. Another soldier comes.The guard says "12" and the soldier gives the answer "6". The guard lets him pass.

So, the first spy goes to the gate and the guard says "10". The spy, sure that he knew the answer says "5". Immediately, the guard shoots him dead.

The hidden spy, who saw that the other spy was killed when he gave the countersign, had now understood what the right answer would be to whatever the guard's sign was. So, he walks to the gate and the guard says "8".The spy gives the correct answer and the guard lets him in.

What was the answer that the spy gave?

Answer below. Highlight the white text to clearly see the answer.

Jeisensei got the answer. It is 5. The countersign is how many letters make up the number, in this case, eight is made up of 5 letters.


How about this one then.

This morning my girlfriend sent me this text message:
A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I,J,K,L,M,N,O,P,Q,R,S,T,V,W,X,Y,Z.

What did she mean by this text?

Gah! That message is way too sappy! I am not going to post what I think is the answer here because I don't want to have the chance of publicly getting two in a row :whistle:

I don't know what you mean by behead a number, but I would guess cutting off the rounded part at the bottom of the 6. That would make it look like a one and thus eighteen.

FYI himitsu is correct, I used to be the mod here and while they can change it for you all you have to do is change the original post title. FYI there is a jokes and or riddles thread around here somewhere buried but I think you should just change your OP instead of attaching it to the older thread. My two yen.

I am stumped. I don't like being stumped so I am going to make some guesses :rofl:
1) Take 5 golfing (in other words 5 would have to say "fore!")
2) Add an 84 to the end of 5 (so it would be five ate four)
3) Some sort of kinky 5 and 4 sex?

Have to admit that this is the first forum I've come across that allows the title to be changed without the 'hand of mod' being used.

The answer to my last riddle is below.

The answer is in the spelling of 5. F'iv'e. Those darn roman numerals are at it again

Hmm, I've been on plenty of forums over the years and I've never seen one that allowed the username to be changed after registering, that always required an Admin with database access.

I suppose it's down to the forum software that is used.

OK, here is one for you all.

One family wants to get through a tunnel. Dad can make it in 1 minute, mama in 2 minutes, son in 4 and daughter in 5 minutes. Unfortunately, not more than two persons can go through the narrow tunnel at one time, moving at the speed of the slower one.
Can they all make it to the other side if they have a torch that lasts only 12 minutes and they are afraid of the dark?
