azuhl wrote:Bluray kicks the living shit out of DVD on all counts bar cost. When you can fit a 1080p movie and decent quality sound on a standard DVD, give me a shout, otherwise get a real 1080p TV and tell me there's no difference again. If you're watching it on a CRT, that might be your problem.
"last place where I stopped watching a bluray not remembered (in contrast to dvd). Thus, not only I have remember that myself and look for it, but even more annoying I have to watch all the intros, commercials and piracy warning stuff every bloody time! I really hate that."
Does that not happen on DVD any more? I'm pretty sure it does.
"Actually dvd colors often look brighter and nicer. I rather have the impression that you only notice a difference if you watch it at the same time next to each other."
In your 'professional' opinion, is that? Well, you're entitled to your opinion, how ever wrong it may be.

1. I usually watch on my laptop, so I thought that might be the reason, but on the other hand, my first bluray experience was Transformers 2 on PS3 with a large flatscreen. I watched it with a friend and we both agreed that we don't really realize a big difference to dvd. I don't say there isn't, just I don't notice it. Like I said, it's probably different if watching a bluray and a dvd next to each other.
2. It also depends if the software / player has that function, I've used two different softwares and they remembered the last place for dvds but not blurays.
3. No, in my personal opinion, that is. Again, it might be different on big flatscreens, but on my notebook (actually pretty good new vaio) blurays definitely have a colder look.
And I remember I rented Ghost Rider bluray once, to compare with my GR dvd, and the bluray was darker, some scenes where you could see sth (like faces) on dvd, you couldn't see anything on the bluray.

1. Try and run BR through VLC and DVDs through another proggie, this way, you can mess with the Gamma settings to develop a 'look' that suits you, I'll agree with you that BR look 'colder', but this is due to presets in most programs being suited to DVD (as right now, it's the industry standard).
2. Ultimately, if you look at them side-by-side on a 32"+ 1080p screen, you'll notice a massive difference in depth of field and general quality of picture.
Ultimately, the facts don't lie, BR is 'better' than DVD as you can fit more detail on the larger capacity disc

1. Yeah, I did try it with VLC that time (long ago), but don't remember if I tried to change any settings.. but I didn't want to use it for blurays or dvd because it doesn't have the "remember" feature, and the ff / rew is annoying (it doesn't return to normal speed by pressing "play")
2. Yeah, side-by-side is probably quite different.Ultimately, the facts don't lie, BR is 'better' than DVD as you can fit more detail on the larger capacity disc
Sure, have never doubted that, was only talking about my perception and experience
