Think of a number, double it, double it again, then half it, multiply by 3 then divide by 6. Enter the square root of a random 4 digit figure and remove the total of Pi to get your total.

Never got anything back.. maybe because I never bothered to fill out the forms and send them in!? I hate doing that even in my own language, my motivation to (try to) do it in Jp. is hardly above 0..

Go to your city office they will help you out. Here in Japan if you don't apply for it they wont come looking for you to pay you, BUT if you have a refund coming it is VERY possible to collect previous years money as well.

Doesnt hurt to try, however if you owe them they will gut you for it. [rage]

Have a friend in the tax office...they have a naughty list indeed. But he himself is a critic of some aspects of the system, and I think 'most' are human like my friend, and would be happy to work out a payment plan for any type of tax you may owe. In short don't fear the reaper... I mean tax guys.

I got about 50,000 yen last year too. My wife does that that stuff, its always a surprise for me, I forget about it! LOL
But this year I have dropped wages (compared to last year) so that is one reason why I am getting some ....

Go to the tax office home page. You need to get your anual income paper from previous years employer and you can do it all online (from that home page)
good luck but be careful, you might have to pay!

Want to bet? If the prefecture comes after you they will put a lien on your pay if you dont come up with the cash. I ended up having to pay 70,000 yen a month for 3 months plus a final of 50,000 to cover my back taxes but also my deceased father in laws property taxes.

I can not go into details but rest assured if you owe they will come after you. I tried working out a payment plan at about half that rate and the city said FU.

Watch out! I had that happen last year and the local office were pricks and sent my "file" to the prefecture tax folks. Evidently now, from last year I think it was, the residence tax is going to the prefecture and then back to the local municipality and not the other way around. That makes it easier for the prefecture to put a lien on your pay if they can not get you to make a payment agreement. And their payment agreements are rough.

I logged in...from home. Wonder if my school pcs can do it now! Damn forum is MEXT someway...anyway. @ paul sounds like you got very unlucky with your tax people. As I mentioned about my friend before, they seem like they will even give you a free rim job, just as long as you pay up. They are all about special plans, especially for the back tax.

Note, I never said they wouldn't come after you! ;)

Thank you, the asshole that was in-charge of my "file" at the city office has been moved to a different section. Evidently, if rumors are true, he pissed off a whole shitload of folks and caused a MEXT load of problems for quite a number of people. (Personally I hope he had his dick cut off)

The guys in charge now are more understanding, I was out of work for a month or so and the first thing they said was..."Hell there's no way you can pay" " Let us know when you get a job and I am sure we can work things out without going to the prefecture".

If this dude is lying to me I will be in jail this time next year. If not.....then everything is copestetic!
