Getting the usual from America; socks, underwear, deodorant that actually works, lots of sweets that I can't get for cheap here, a book via kindle and money.

Giving lots of random Japanese stuff because that is what my family likes plus some Japanese travel books because they are planning on coming here next year.

Girlfriend and I will just be giving little trinkets to each other because we are both poor.

Got my missus a new camera, bought myself a dock for my tablet because that's how I (geekily) roll. Also bought a few things from the 100Y shop, we have our American friend coming over, he would have been alone this Christmas so really happy about him coming...I just don't know what to get him :p Possibly some nice leather gloves...BUT HOW BIG ARE HIS HANDS?

We are giving each other a road/ferry trip to Hokkaido.

I am probably out for this year ladies, so top of the day to you. Best of the season, and 良いお年を to you all. Thank you for listening to a year of my ramblings.

Coming from a "huge" family it would literally break the bank buying gifts for everyone so my family back home, and when I am there, do something called a white elephant. Everyone brings something goofy that they have laying around the house that they want to get rid of. Each person takes turns picking something, and when it's your turn you can pick from the pile or take something that someone else has chosen ahead of you. It's gets to be a lot of fun when 40 to 50 people are exchanging stuff.

One year I got a set of brass door knobs, and believe it or not, it is what I wanted that year!

Here we decided to not spent a ton of money and limit each to 5,000 yen. We trade names, I give one son 5,000, and my wife gives 5,000 to the other, as they have no cash. My daughter works so she pays her own. The fun part is actually having to really think about what to buy for that person at that price. To us the bigger thing is not the presents so much as being together, sharing a meal and time together. This year I think I am going to get a few packs of imported stuffed olives, some imported cheese, a six pack of my favorite beer, 500ml cans of Ichiban Shibori, and other snacks that go with beer! I'm lovin it!

sorry, by "get" I meant "buy" ^^' (in case there was any confusion)
This year again I'm gonna get myself something too, most likely Mario Kart 7 (3ds).

You all will probably think I am a grinch but I am neither buying any gifts nor expecting to receive any either. I have no close family to speak of and there are no special friends that I feel like buying any presents for.

I intend to get falling down drunk and hopefully won't fall off the platform on my way home.

We all hope that you don't get hit by any trains (well at least I do).

I can understand not getting into the Christmas spirit. For the last few years I have been forcing the Christmas spirit down my own throat just to stay within the expected norms for this time of the year. Maybe because it is close to the longest night of the year or something like that but Christmas is sort of depressing. I wish the ancient Christians chose some other pagan holiday at some other time of the year to usurp instead of one at this time of the year.

I distinctly dislike Christmas here in Japan for a number of reasons, but I think the biggest for me is that just about every department store or home center that I have been to since October has had some type of display or sale going on for Christmas.

I will say this to all members here, while I may not particularly like or appreciate Christmas, I do wish everyone who does celebrate the holiday a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
