Christchurch. Again.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, nuclear power plant meltdowns, etc.

Christchurch. Again.

my brothers house has been red zoned. So he is lucky in a sense, he will get the cost of the house before the quake (paid by Gov)

Whole bunch of houses have been redzoned? In the thousands? I just hope for him it is a speedy process. Go the Crusaders tonight.

Just an observation here, maybe the Japanese Gov. should take a page from the NZ manner of dealing with disasters like this and assist with the people who lost their homes and still are forced to pay their outstanding debts. Some may view this as getting something for free, however I have had the experience here in Japan, similar to Paul I believe, of losing a vehicle due to a typhoon and my insurance paid it off, plus 10%, with no increase in my insurance rates.

It's possible, but is there the "will" to take care of these folks?

I think for a start the worst 5100 houses are red zoned, possibly more to follow (The Crusaders won!)
